Glasgow 2016 Homeless World Cup
Tournament Director/Project Manager
To deliver a major event in the city centre of Glasgow, creating a purpose built stadium, opening and closing ceremonies and a successful, impactful tournament.
Over 500 players representing 58 national teams from all over the world came together to compete in a seven day tournament in a purpose built temporary stadium in George Square, Glasgow. Approximately 80,000 spectators braved the fickle Scottish summer weather to cheer them on!
“The Homeless World Cup is a unique, pioneering social movement which uses football to inspire homeless people to change their own lives. We envision a world where anyone and everyone who is or becomes homeless can gain access to one of our National Partners’ transformative programmes. Our mission is to inspire homeless people to change their lives through the power of football. We operate through a network of more than 70 National Partners to support football programmes and social enterprise development. We provide a focus for—and celebration of—their year-round activity by organising and delivering an annual, world-class, international football tournament for national teams of homeless men and women.” [Source: Homeless World Cup Foundation]
